ODD FELLOWS BUILDING
BUILT IN 1887
HONORING THE PAST,
ENVISIONING THE FUTURE.
The original upstairs ballroom served as the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Hall and Rebekah Lodge, community and school dances, homecoming banquets, dance lessons and quilting bees, yet amazingly remained untouched throughout the century. The 2022-23 renovations were able to retain the original floors and beautiful tin ceilings adorned with stunning chandeliers, state-of-the-art connectivity and audio/visual systems, an elevator, kitchen, and two hotel style rooms.

100 years after the building was erected - Kanokla purchased the old IOOF hall and Rains Motor Co buildings from Marvin & Francis Kloefkorn, who joined the two buildings with a large sliding garage door in the back shared wall. With some sleuthing, it appears Frank Wewerke also built the Schaeffer Mortuary, Nostalgia Nook, and corner building. He drummed up excitement and promotion for Caldwell to entice other developers to build the downtown Main Street blocks.

Keeping with the authentic look of the upstairs ballroom, the tin ceilings will remain unpainted with their chippy white paint, the dense pine floors were hard enough to keep. The original main north entry is reopened and the wide stairs are in great shape. The elevated side stages were removed, but we kept the front, back, and corner stages for authenticity and cool future uses. The original two halls: ballroom and dining hall will retain their original floors and tin ceiling, serving as two venue spaces. Mr Wewerka will be honored by displaying his history of constructing the building along with his role as promoter during Caldwell’s boom period.
